What is Buttweld Fittings?

A Buttweld fitting is a part which is joined to a Buttweld. An American standard Buttweld thread is a type of screw or thread, commonly used on Buttweld fittings to assure a tight seal. A Buttweld fitting is a part which is joined to a Buttweld. These are used to combine, divert or reduce the flow of the water supply, and they come in a variety of sizes to fit the Buttweld they will connect.
Buttweld fittings dimensions are important and there are sizing standards to follow. While most have openings of the same size on each end, some fittings are designed with different-sized openings and serve as the transition from one size Buttweld to another. Buttweld Fittings are Piping component that helps in Changes the direction of the flow such as elbows, tees. Changes the size of the Buttweld such as reducers, reducing tees. Connect different components such as couplings and stop the flows such as Caps.

What Is The Purpose Of Buttweld Fittings?

Buttweld fittings manufacturers , also known as Buttweld connectors, attach one Buttweld to another in order to lengthen the run or change the flow direction in a plumbing system. These are used to combine, divert or reduce the flow of the water supply, and they come in a variety of sizes to fit the Buttweld they will connect.
The basic purpose of using Buttweld fittings in Buttweld systems is to connect the bores of two or more Buttwelds or tubes. Buttweld fittings are used in piping systems normally :-

  • to connect straight Buttweld or tubing sections,
  • to adapt to different sizes or shapes,
  • to branch or re-direct the piping system,
  • if necessary to provide a jointing method if two dissimilar piping materials are used in the one system, and
  • for other purposes, such as regulating, measuring or changing the direction of the fluid flow or to connect up threaded Buttweld and equipment.

  • They are also used to close or seal a Buttweld.

    How Are Buttweld Fittings Classified?

Buttweld fittings are generally classified as "welded" or "pressure" fittings. Welded fittings are welded on to the piping system where as pressure fitting uses National Buttweld Thread (NPT) to connect to the Buttweld. Pressure fittings are classified as 3000#, 6000# or 9000# (most common).

What is Buttweld Fittings Manufacturing Process?

Buttweld fittings are usually manufactured from the Buttweld, bar, hollow bar, castings, or forgings. The fittings are used in non-critical, low-pressure applications where welding is not possible or required. They, therefore, provide a relatively low-cost method of connection. Buttweld Fittings Manufacturers Myanmar are usually fitted with a sealant (paste or tape such as PTFE) and are considered to be permanent Buttweld-work. Buttweld or socket weld fittings are a type of fittings used for forming circumferential butt weld joints in Buttweldwork systems. They are used for critical systems and in areas where Buttweld-work is permanent and are designed to provide good flow characteristics.
Fittings for piping systems can be expensive and require a proportionally large labor element to install, therefore correct selection and use is of vital importance to a well-installed piping system. Every type of piping material has a range of fittings that can be used with it and some piping materials can have multiple different ranges of fittings that can be used. For example, copper piping systems can be installed by bending the Buttweld and therefore using no elbows, using soldered copper fittings or compression brass fittings depending on the type of service being transferred in the copper Buttweld. Fittings are generally available with ends to match the piping installation.

What Are Materials Used For Buttweld Fittings?

Fittings for Buttweld and tubing are most often made from the same base material as the Buttweld or tubing being connected, e.g., stainless steel, steel, copper, or plastic. However, any material that is allowed by code may be used but must be compatible with the other materials in the system, the fluids being transported, and the temperatures and pressures inside and outside of the system.
The material with which a Buttweld is manufactured often forms the basis for choosing Buttweld fittings. Buttweld fittings are made of the following materials.

  • Carbon steel
  • Low-temperature carbon steel
  • Stainless steel
  • Malleable iron/ductile iron
  • Non-ferrous metals
  • Non-metallic materials
  • Chrome-molybdenum steel
  • Alloy Steel
  • Mild Steel
  • -normally used for high-temperature service

The bodies of fittings for Buttweld and tubing are most often of the same base material as the Buttweld or tubing being connected. However, any material that is allowed by the code may be used but must be compatible with the other materials in the system, the fluids being transported, and the temperatures and pressures inside and outside of the piping system. Fire hazards, earthquake resistance, and other factors also influence the choice of Buttweld fitting materials.
Hydraulic systems use extremely high fluid pressures to create useful work, such as in the hydraulic actuators for hydraulic-powered machinery. Therefore, hydraulic fittings are designed and rated for much greater pressures than those experienced in general piping systems, and they are generally not compatible for general use. Hydraulic fittings are designed and constructed to resist high-pressure leakage and sudden explosive failure.

What Are The Types Of Buttweld Fittings?

While there are thousands of specialized Buttweld fittings manufacturers Ahmedabad, some common types of Buttweld fittings which are used widely in piping systems are- (i) elbow, (ii) tee, (iii) cross, (iv) reducer, (v) cap or plug, (vi) union, (vii) coupling, (viii) nipple, etc.

  • Elbow – It is a Buttweld fitting that is installed between two lengths of Buttweld or tube allowing a change of direction, usually 90 degrees or 45 degrees. The ends may be machined for butt welding, threaded (usually female), or socketed, etc. When the two ends differ in size, it is called a reducing or reducer elbow. Most elbows are available in short radius or long radius of types. The short radius elbows have a center to end distance equal to the nominal diameter, while the long radius is 1.5 times the nominal diameter. Elbows used on powder transfer systems have a much longer radius (radius of a bend can be 10 times the nominal diameter of the Buttweld) to ensure smooth flow, reduce wear to both product and piping, and reduce the chance of getting blockages.

  • Tee – A tee is used to either combine or split a fluid flow. Most common are equal tees which have the same body and branch diameter but there is also a wide range of reducing tees where either the branch or the body is of a different diameter relative to each other. A swept tee is where the branch enters the body at an arc and is used to minimize the frictional losses and promote flow in the system. Wye (Y) Buttweld tee fittings are with three openings and are used to create branch lines. A wye tee is where the branch is stabbed into the body at an angle usually 45 degrees and is usually used where the branch is a smaller diameter than the main Buttweld. Wye tees are similar to tees except that the branch line is angled to reduce friction and turbulence that could hamper the flow.

  • Cross – A cross has one inlet and three outlets, or vice versa and like tees come in equal and reducing forms. A cross is more expensive than two tees but has the advantage of reduced space and requires less labor to install.

  • Reducer – Reducers are used to join two different Buttweld sizes together. They can be either concentric or eccentric which refers to the relative position of the center lines of the outlet and inlet. Special attention must be given when using reducers in a horizontal orientation as the slope prevents free draining of a system if not installed correctly.

  • Cap or plug – It is a type of Buttweld fitting which is liquid or gas-tight, and is used to cover the end of a Buttweld. A cap has a similar function to a plug. For screwed systems, the cap is having female threads where a plug is having male threads.

  • Coupling – A coupling connects two Buttwelds to each other. If the size of the Buttweld is not the same, the fitting may be called a reducing coupling or reducer, or an adapter. By convention, the term ‘expander’ is not generally used for a coupling that increases Buttweld size; instead, the term ‘reducer’ is used.

  • Union – A union is similar to a coupling except that it is designed to allow quick and convenient disconnection of Buttwelds for maintenance or fixture replacement.

  • Nipple – A short stub of Buttweld usually of threaded steel, brass, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, or copper; occasionally just bare copper. A nipple is defined as being a short stub of the Buttweld that has external male Buttweld threads at each end, for connecting two other fittings. Nipples are commonly used for hoses.

  • How To Choose Buttweld Fittings?

Buttweld fittings are to be selected considering certain factors. These factors are given below.

  • Connection types:– When using Buttweld fittings, one is to be aware of the fact that a fitting can have two different connector types. Both the ends can have female threads or one end of the fitting can have female threads while the other end can have male threads. One end may have a male slip while the other end can have threads. They can also have matching ends that can accommodate any requirement.

  • Materials of construction:– As a rule, the Buttweld fitting should be of the same material as the material used in the making of the Buttweld in which it is to be fitted. However, in some cases, materials conforming to certain codes or standards can also be used in Buttwelds of another material.

  • Check for flow:– To keep the flow of the fluid consistent in the piping system, the ends of Buttweld fittings are to be slightly larger than the rest of the Buttweld so that they can accommodate connections without narrowing the inner diameter (ID) of the Buttweld.

  • Type of fitting:– Besides Buttweld materials, Buttweld fittings are identified by the type of fitting such as threaded or slip, male or female.

  • Size:– When measuring the size of Buttweld fittings, it is to be noted that the male threaded fittings are measured to the outside edge or outer diameter (OD), while female fittings are measured to the inside edge of the inlet or ID.

  • Thickness:– The Buttweld fittings are available in a number of different thicknesses or ‘schedules’ in the same way as the Buttwelds are available.

  • Design:– Each Buttweld or tube is designed to carry certain specific types of fluids, liquids, gases, chemicals under varying conditions. Accordingly, the Buttweld fittings are also available in a variety of designs.

  • Standards and codes:-There are certain standards and codes set by various standard organizations by which the different Buttweld fittings are graded. Buttweld fittings are selected and used to satisfy these standards.

  • Buttweld Fittings come in Buttweld & Forged Form. Buttweld Fittings is available either seamless or welded form, which is manufactured in all steel material and metal standards compliances.

    Buttweld Fittings Manufacturer Myanmar?

Fitwel Industries LLP is a one of the leading professional Buttweld Fittings Manufacturer in Myanmar andButtweld Fittings suppliers in Myanmar of stainless steel Buttweld Fittings & carbon steel Buttweld Fittings in a complete range of stainless steel & carbon steel grades and sizes.
A buttweld fitting is a weldable Buttweld fitting that allows for change of direction of flow, to branch off, reduce Buttweld size or attach auxiliary equipment. Forged Steel buttweld fittings are manufactured in accordance with ANSI / ASME B16.9.
Buttweld fittings comprise of long radius elbow, concentric reducer, eccentric reducers, and Tees, etc. Buttweld stainless steel and carbon steel fittings are an important part of the industrial piping system to change direction, branch off, or mechanically join equipment to the system. Buttweld fittings are sold in nominal Buttweld sizes with a specified Buttweld schedule. Butt-welded fitting’s dimensions and tolerances are defined as per ASME standard B16.9.

Buttweld fittings such as carbon steel and stainless steel offer many advantages compared to threaded and socket weld fittings. The latter is only available up to 4-inch nominal size whereas butt weld fittings are available in sizes from ½” to 72”.
Some of the advantages of weld fittings are;-

  • Welded connection offers a more robust connection.
  • Continuous metal structure adds to the strength of the piping system.
  • Butt-weld fittings with matching Buttweld schedules offer seamless flow inside the Buttweld. A full penetration weld and properly fitted LR 90 Elbow, Reducer, Concentric reducer, etc. offers gradual transition via welded Buttweld fitting.
  • All Buttweld fittings have beveled ends as per ASME B16.25 standard. This helps create a full penetration weld without any extra preparation needed for the butt weld fitting.

  • Buttweld Fitting Beveling

All welded Buttweld Fittings have bevelled ends to allow for ease of welding. This bevel allows for full penetration weld in most cases.
There are two types of bevels;-

  • Plain Bevel
  • Compound Bevel

  • Buttweld Fitting Specification & Standards

Welded Buttweld Fittings are made as per ASME spec B16.9. ASME B16.9 covers factory made wrought steel butwelding fittings in sizes 1/2" to 48". This standard however does not cover low pressure corrosion resistant buttwelding fittings. See MSS SP-43, Wrought Stainless Steel Butt-Welding Fittings.

How a ButtWeld Fitting is Made?

A butt weld pipe fitting is made by the process of hot forming that includes bending and forming to shape. The starting material of butt weld fitting is a pipe that is cut to length, heated and molded into specific shapes by means of dyes. Heat treatment is also done to remove residual stresses and obtain desired mechanical properties. Read the link here to get more in depth detail of butt weld fitting manufacturing.

What does Short Radius (SR) or Long Radius (LR) Means?

You will often hear SR45 elbow or LR45 elbow. The 45 or 90 refers to the angle of the bend for butt weld fitting to change the direction of flow. A long radius elbow (LR 90 Elbow or LR 45 elbow) will have a pipe bend that will be 1.5 times the size of the pipe. So, a 6 inch LR 90 has bending radius that is 1.5 x nominal pipe size. A short radius elbow (SR45 or SR90) has pipe bend that is equal to the size of fitting so a 6” SR 45 has bending radius that is 6” nominal pipe size.
